Hello, I am Paul Thompson, the inventor of the ‘Soft Cannula'.
When I was employed at a cannula manufacturing facility, my Aunt Ema, who used oxygen, and mentioned
that the 50 foot tubing she dragged around was easy to trip on when your foot got caught under it.
In the lab I finally designed tubing that laid flat on the floor like wet spaghetti. Viola ! You didn't trip on it
because your foot couldn't get underneath.
Aunt Ema reported that it worked perfectly and she added that the new “Soft Tube” had a second benefit.
Regular tubing formed twisted loops (like a phone cord) that tended to kink and block the flow. Everyday
she would have to disconnect the tubing and unwind all the twists then reconnect. When testing the new “Soft
Tubing” there was no kinking and blocking and no unwinding necessary.
This first invention was a popular seller. After realizing the improvement in the comfort of her dad-to-day routine,
she then suggested a strong desire to have the whole cannula made with the new type of tubing. Although the
tubing was too big for the part on your face, she noticed a considerable benefit.
I then used one of the extrusion machines to make smaller tubing out of the same plastic as the bigger tube.
This resulted in a wonderful cannula that easily flexed when the head was turned from side to side. This was also a successful product.
Next I improved the part that goes in your nose.
The result is a product that is much better on a number of levels, and is what we have been selling since 1999.
